Breakout Sessions

Each round features three concurrent 45-minute sessions. Choose the session that best fits your interests and goals.

Round 1 — 10:00 AM PT

Implement AI Policy AND Improve the Student and Instructor Experience

Mohammad Ghasemzadeh, Rumi Technologies & Bryan Rollins, Chemeketa Community College

This session presents a third path beyond banning or ignoring AI — reimagining the writing experience itself. Institutions can adopt integrated learning environments where AI models, real-time grammar tools, and instructor feedback coexist within the LMS, giving educators unprecedented visibility into how students think, draft, revise, and grow as writers.

Enhancing Your Teaching with AI: Tools and Strategies for Educators Workshop (Part 1 of 2)

Jessica Bernards, Portland Community College & University of Oregon

This two-part workshop will equip you with advanced prompting techniques, innovative AI-powered lesson design, equitable assessment strategies, and proven frameworks for guiding students toward ethical AI usage. Participants will leave with tangible, ready-to-go resources. Continues in Part 2 at 11:00 AM.

Transforming Education with Google's AI Ecosystem: Gemini & NotebookLM

Tyler Allan, Google for Education

Explore the transformative potential of Google's Gemini and NotebookLM as force multipliers for the modern educator. We will examine how Gemini serves as an adaptive creative partner for curriculum design, rubric generation, and personalized feedback, while NotebookLM synthesizes dense academic materials into grounded, hallucination-free study aids and Audio Overviews.

Round 2 — 11:00 AM PT

Stop Policing AI: Let's Design Assessments Students Won't Outsource

Kristine Roshau, Central Oregon Community College & David Greene, Harmonize Learning

This session shifts the focus from policing AI to redesigning assessment. Participants will explore how Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and learner agency can support more authentic, engaging, and AI-resistant assignments. Leave with concrete strategies to create assignments that require real student thinking.

Enhancing Your Teaching with AI: Tools and Strategies for Educators Workshop (Part 2 of 2)

Jessica Bernards, Portland Community College & University of Oregon

Continuation of the Part 1 workshop. Unlock the full potential of AI as your teaching partner and prepare your students for a future where human creativity and artificial intelligence work hand in hand.

Round 3 — 12:15 PM PT

Creating AI Resilient Assignments When AI is in Everything

Christopher Claysmith, Chemeketa Community College

This session focuses on creating AI resilient assessments, identifying the goals instructors want students to achieve, and building an environment where students take ownership over their own learning. The goal is to generate discussion and share ideas to embrace learning in the age of AI.

Reducing Faculty Workload with Generative AI Support for Learning Outcomes, Curriculum Mapping, and Rubric Creation

Rand Ware & Kevin Steeves, Lane Community College

Hands-on practice utilizing Generative AI to increase efficiency in outcomes assessment. Participants will leverage pre-built GenAI tools (GEMs) for three critical tasks: drafting measurable learning outcomes, generating preliminary curriculum maps, and creating initial rubric drafts. GenAI as a productivity tool, not a replacement.

Design (or Remix!) a Personalized Course-Support Chatbot Using a Free, Secure, Open-Source Nonprofit Platform

Travis Lund & Travis Owen, Oregon Institute of Technology

Create your own course-support AI chatbot, customized for your context. Suitable for all experience levels; no programming skills needed. We will demonstrate the design process via Playlab.AI, a nonprofit platform where educators can create and share educational AI tools in a free, secure, FERPA-compliant, open-source setting.

Round 4 — 1:15 PM PT

Planting the Seeds of AI Literacy Across Oregon

Sage Freeman, Chemeketa Community College & Kevin Steeves, Lane Community College

How a group of community college educators and leaders began building a collaborative, statewide approach to AI literacy. Learn about shared frameworks, faculty training, and open resources that support responsible AI use in teaching and learning. Leave with practical ideas for launching similar initiatives at your own institution.

Turning AI Anxiety into Action

Jill Childress, Linn-Benton Community College

The charge, structure, and activities of Linn-Benton Community College's Artificial Intelligence Task Force over two years. We will explore the AITF's efforts on developing policy and process, training, and next steps as the Task Force concludes its work and prepares for the future of genAI support on campus.

From Curiosity to Capacity: How AI Coordinators Build an AI-Ready Campus (and Community)

Megan Baker & Lauren Aspell, Klamath Community College

How institutions can move beyond isolated AI experimentation toward coordinated, sustainable support. Learn how a dedicated AI Coordinator position increases efficiency by establishing a shared language, facilitating collaboration, and filtering noise in a rapidly evolving AI landscape.
